Putin Puts Nuclear Forces On High Alert
Vladimir Putin has put Russian Nuclear forces on high alert after tensions have become to escalate with European member states over the invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking at a meeting with his top officials, Putin asserted on Sunday that leading Nato powers had made “aggressive statements” on imposing hard-hitting financial sanctions against Russia, including the president himself.
Putin ordered the Russian defence minister and the chief of the military’s General Staff to put the nuclear deterrent forces in a “special regime of combat duty.”
It comes as the governor of Kharkiv region said that Ukraine has full control of the city and that large numbers of Russian prisoners have surrendered after this morning’s apparently botched assault.
Street fighting has raged in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-biggest city, after Russian forces pierced through Ukrainian lines.
However, Russian troops have so far failed to enter Kyiv as Ukrainians defended the capital city.
